Your music as a network drive on your computer (WebDAV)

With the network drive, your music library sits on your own computer as an ordinary folder. Dragging is uploading, without an FTP client and without an upload button.

You'll find it under Programma → Netwerkmap.

The difference first, because that's where it goes wrong

The network drive is your library, not a copy of it. Whatever you drag into it is uploaded, exactly as in the dashboard, and a folder is a folder in the library.

That also means: delete a file there and it's gone for good from the library and from every playlist. There is no recycle bin.

Switching on, and the password

Choose Netwerkmap aanzetten. You get an address, a username and a password.

Save that password straight away. It is shown only once. We don't store it, and the panel won't show it again either. Lost it? Make a new password.

Connecting

Windows: File Explorer → This PC → Map network drive. Paste the address under Folder, tick Connect using different credentials and fill in the username and password. The screen also gives a net use command for the command prompt.

macOS: Finder → Go → Connect to Server. Paste the address starting with davs:// and choose Registered User.

Linux: in your file manager (Files, Dolphin, Thunar) under Connect to Server, with the same davs:// address.

Large files on Windows

Windows itself only allows files up to about 47 MB, even when the network drive accepts more. A long mix then fails with an error that doesn't mention that limit.

The screen gives the registry change that raises the Windows limit. Run it in a command prompt as administrator and then restart the WebClient service (that's part of the same command).

Does a folder with thousands of files open empty or with an error? Then raise FileAttributesLimitInBytes the same way.

New password and switching off

New password invalidates the old one immediately. Disconnect the drive first on every computer it's mapped on: a computer that keeps trying the old password is refused for a while.

Switching off leaves the files in the library. Only the drive disappears from your computers.

Before you report a fault

"I can't get in any more." Did you recently make a new password? Then another computer may still be trying the old one, and you get refused for a while. Disconnect the drive everywhere and connect again.

"A large file won't copy." Check the Windows limit above. Above the network drive's own limit (shown on the screen) it won't work either; upload it in the dashboard or make it smaller.

"Renaming doesn't work." Replacing or renaming a file isn't possible; moving it to another folder is. Only audio goes in: MP3, AAC/M4A, FLAC, OGG or WAV.

"Copying with xcopy fails." xcopy can't create folders on a network drive. Use File Explorer or robocopy.

Not in your plan?

The network drive is included in Beat and Stage. If it isn't in your plan, you can't switch it on or make a new password. If it's still on from a bigger plan, you can see it on this screen and switch it off. Your library itself keeps working through the dashboard.
