VPS frequently asked questions

What is a VPS?
A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a virtual server with its own dedicated resources. You get full root access and can install any operating system and software. Unlike shared hosting, you don't share resources with other users.
What is the difference between VPS and shared hosting?
With shared hosting you share server resources with other websites. With a VPS you have guaranteed dedicated CPU, RAM and storage. This provides better performance, more control and the ability to install your own software.
Which operating systems can I choose?
Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux or Windows Server. You choose when you order and can reinstall later from your dashboard.
Can I run Docker on a VPS?
Yes. With root access you install Docker and Docker Compose as on any Linux server. The n8n app already ships with Docker.
Can I self-host n8n?
Yes, n8n is on your VPS in one click, with Caddy and an SSL certificate. You pay no licence per workflow or execution, only for your VPS.
Can I upgrade to a larger package later?
Yes. After an upgrade your VPS gets more processor cores, memory and disk space; it restarts briefly for that. A disk never shrinks, so moving to a package with less storage is not possible.
How do backups work?
You take snapshots yourself from your dashboard and restore them whenever you want. Automatic daily backups come with Managed VPS. Always keep your own copy outside the server as well.
Where is my VPS located?
In our data centre in Meppel, in the Netherlands. Your data stays in the EU.
What is the difference with Managed VPS?
With Managed VPS we take over full management: automatic updates, 24/7 monitoring, security and daily backups. Plus 99.9% uptime target and priority support. Ideal if you don't have time for server management.
