Managing Your Webhosting Password
Your webhosting password is used to log in to the DirectAdmin control panel and for FTP access. You can always change or reset this password yourself through the customer portal — even if you no longer know your current password.
Changing Your Password
Use the Change password option when you know your current password and want to replace it with a new one.
Step by Step
- Go to Dashboard → Services
- Click on your webhosting package
- Click Change password in the top right (key icon)
- Enter your current password
- Enter a new password (minimum 8 characters)
- Confirm the new password
- Click Save
Your password is changed on the server immediately.
Generating a Strong Password
You can also have a strong password generated automatically:
- Click Generate strong password
- A secure 16-character password is created automatically
- The password is filled in and made visible so you can note it down
- Click Save
Tip: Save the generated password in a password manager such as Bitwarden or 1Password.
Resetting Your Password (Forgotten Password)
Use the Reset password option when you no longer know your current password. This also applies if your package was recently transferred and you have never set a password.
When resetting, your current password is not required — it is directly overwritten.
Step by Step
- Go to Dashboard → Services
- Click on your webhosting package
- Click Change password in the top right (key icon)
- Click Forgot password? (below the "Current Password" field)
- Enter a new password (minimum 8 characters)
- Confirm the new password
- Click Reset
Your new password is active immediately.
After Resetting
After a successful reset, you can:
- Log in to the DirectAdmin control panel via the Login button on your service page
- Use FTP with the new password
- Use all management features: email management, DNS, databases, subdomains, etc.
Important: If your package was transferred (imported) and you cannot use certain features, reset your password first. All management features will work normally again afterwards.
Logging In to DirectAdmin
After setting your password, you can log in to the DirectAdmin control panel:
- Go to Dashboard → Services → [Your package]
- Click the Login button (or DirectAdmin button)
- A secure one-time login link is created
- You are automatically logged in to DirectAdmin
You can also log in directly via the DirectAdmin URL of your server with your username and password.
What Is the Password Used For?
| Function | Password required |
|---|---|
| DirectAdmin control panel | Yes (or via one-time login link) |
| FTP access | Yes |
| Email management in dashboard | No (works via management API) |
| DNS management in dashboard | No (works via management API) |
| Database management in dashboard | No (works via management API) |
| File management in dashboard | No (works via management API) |
Most functions in the customer portal work via a secure server API and do not require your password directly. Only direct access to DirectAdmin and FTP require your password.
Frequently Asked Questions
I didn't receive a password after purchase, what now?

Yes, there is no obligation to change your password regularly. We do recommend using a strong, unique password.
My password doesn't work in DirectAdmin, what should I do?
- Check that you're using the correct password
- Check that Caps Lock is off
- Use the Reset password option to set a new password
Does the one-time login link always work?
The one-time login link is valid for 5 minutes and can only be used once. Click the link immediately after creating it. If the link has expired, create a new one via the Login button.
I changed my password but FTP no longer works.
Wait a few seconds after changing your password before trying FTP again. If the problem persists, reconfigure your FTP client with the new password.
My package was transferred but management features don't work.
This can happen if the password was not available during the transfer. Use the Reset password function — after setting a new password, all features such as email, DNS, and databases will work immediately again.
